Cloisonné (Hard Enamel) is an art developed centuries ago in China. This type of pin is the most expensive pin we have. It has a very luxurious look and the colors last for over 100 years without fading. When looking for a high quality pin this would be your choice.
How they are made
An imprint of the design is stamped onto a sheet of metal. The recessed areas are filled with a glass like mixture. Every time a new color is added, the pin is then fired at a temperature of over 1,500 degrees; this process eliminates the colors from bleeding. The colors in the pin are separated by your choice of gold or silver metal. The pins are then polished to a smooth jewelry like finish.
