High Quality Cloisonné Lapel Pins

Cloisonné (Hard Enamel) is a traditional art developed centuries ago in China. This type of pin is the most expensive pin we have. It has a very luxurious look and the colors last for over 100 years without fading, and is extremely durable. When looking for a high quality pin with an elegant appearance this would be your choice.

How they are made

The design is imprinted onto a copper or bronze sheet of metal, adding dimension to the pin and leaving raised outlines that will separate the enamel colors. Then the outline of the pin and any remaining cut-outs are cut with another mold. The recessed areas are hand-filled with a powdered glass-like mixture. Every time a new color is added, the pin is then fired at a temperature of over 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit. This process is neccesary to avoid the colors from bleeding, and it prevents them to fade, keeping their brilliant hue. After cooling, the pins are then individually hand polished to a smooth jewelry like finish. The colors in the pin are separated by gold or silver metal plating.
